Taiwan Day 1 + 2

DAY ONE

*Pictures are shrunk so they are a bit pixelated. Click on them to view them clearer!*

The flight to Taipei was dreary… I have this love-hate thing going on with flights. I love being on a plane but I find planes very smelly and it gives me a headache… Attempted to watch The Amazing Spider-Man but I fell asleep. We arrived in Taipei at 9am and took an hour long bus ride to the hotel. Many of the shops weren't open so we just walked around aimlessly.

We always have the famous mee sua (麵線) in the Xi Men Ding area, which I find slightly overrated but I can't resist the pig intestines inside because they are the bomb. It's the perfect thing to have when you're  on in the cold, freezing.

The people just stand around and finish their delicious bowl of goodness.

We also had fried oysters and carrot cake. I preferred the fried oysters because I am an oyster person and I love my oysters very much.

Taiwan's 7-11 is a lot like heaven. If you have been there, you will understand why. You will feel so overwhelmed by choices that you end up buying everything and overeating. I only managed to snap two pictures (yes, one of my beloved Coca-Cola) because the cashier scolded me for taking photographs (?!?!?!).

My fave fave fave sweet potato balls (地瓜球). One of the best snacks at XMD!

Visited Raohe St. Night Market later in the evening. It was our first time there!

Highlight of the night: Okonomiyaki! I really enjoyed this, especially with the wasabi. Sometimes the wasabi goes up your nose, sometimes it reaches your head, but it goes vey well with the Japanese pancake.

I find these thoroughly disturbing… :(

Pork rib soup and braised pork on rice a.k.a Lu Rou Fan (滷肉飯)

This is something pretty bizarre they call “fried milk”, and I actually quite like it! #weirdfood

Another #weirdfood: barbecued chicken meat wrapped in chicken skin…… It was meh, average.

DAY TWO

We took a bus up to some mountain whose name I can't recall and there are many old ladies selling their fresh crops on the road. I wonder how much of these painstakingly reared crops do they manage to sell each season…

What makes everybody happy… Some WiFi :)

This tangerine juice that we are all hooked on is naturally sweet and cold?! No ice needed!

My dad and his tangerine juice ad.

After descending the mountain, we visited the Beitou hot springs. At the valley was steaming hot spring water just bubbling out from the ground. Imagine what would happen if you fell in…

People can dip their feet in for a soak at the not-so-bubbling-hot hot springs by the road.

We went to watch the sunset at Danshui. It was an amazing sight!

Random food from the night market at Danshui. This is what they call 大腸抱小腸, which is the Taiwanese sausage wrapped in glutinous rice. I think this is my dad's favourite street snack.

Fried mushrooms are one of my favourites from this night market! I specially came back again for this :)

My chocolate and vanilla ice-cream!

I'm splitting blogging about the whole trip into parts because I am exhausted from editing + uploading + typing. I still have school tomorrow and have yet to complete anything. So ciao!
